Graduated in Law in Spain, he obtained in our country the degree of Licentiate in Civil and Canon Law. Previously he had studied at the Colegio de Belen. He collaborated with different publications, including La Habana Elegante, El Fígaro and La Revista Cubana, in which he published studies on the works of Lope de Vega, as well as other Cuban figures.

He was one of the most important poets and playwrights of the Spanish Golden Age and, due to the extension of his work, one of the most prolific authors of Western literature. He renewed the formulas of Spanish theater at a time when this manifestation began to be a cultural and mass phenomenon. He was the maximum exponent, together with Tirso de Molina and Calderón de la Barca, of Spanish baroque theater. He was born on November 25, 1562 in Madrid and died in that same Spanish city on August 27, 1635.
