A convoy headed by Commander Camilo Cienfuegos entered in Havana. It had more than ten thousand countrymen and its aim was to participate in the ceremony to honor the sixth anniversary of the attack to Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes garrisons. The cavalry came from the hills of Juan Francisco, in the province of Las Villas, at that time. It was the place where Camilo had his camp during the revolutionary fight in that territory in 1958.

Hills of Juan Francisco

Juan Francisco is a rural community located in the Consejo Popular Turquino II, in the central – west area of the municipality of Yaguajay, in the province of Sancti Spiritus. It has a five square kilometers area. Commander Camilo Cienfuegos established his main camp near the town during the time he was in the north of the old province of Las Villas. Important events were carried out during the revolutionary fight in this area, such as the Plenaria Azucarera on November 28th, 1958and the next day the Asamblea Regional Campesina. Hundreds of people from their sectors took part in these events as well as the rebels.
