Yuri Alexéjevich Gagarin, the first cosmonaut of the world, arrives in the International Airport José Martí.

The highest leader of the Cuban revolution, the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro met him. After the protocol with the diplomatic corps and having inspected the military troops that honored him, Gagarin, together with Fidel, got into a convertible car in which they went along Avenida de Rancho Boyeros and other avenues.He was paid an affectionate welcome by thousands and thousands of people in spite of the persistent rain. Gagarin took part and spoke in the ceremony given at Plaza de la Revolución José Martí. It was to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the attack to the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes garrisons. He was given the Orden Playa Girón in that ceremony.

#S1International Airport José Martí

It was officially inaugurated on February 24th, 1930. The airport is located in Boyeros neighborhood and is around 20 kilometers from the City of Havana. It was declared as an international airport by a resolution of the War and Marine Secretary on March 25th, 1930. A redesigning and an extension of the airport was finished in 1989, it is the biggest and the most important in the country. There are other international airports in different cities and areas for tourism , as the one in Varadero

Avenida de Rancho Boyeros

The Avenida de la Independencia is commonly known as Rancho Boyeros. It is one of the longest and important roads of the Cuban capital. It extends from South to North from Rancho Boyeros area, in the municipality of the same name, to the intersection of the Avenida de los Presidentes or G Street and Salvador Allende; in this case known as Carlos III. It is rather near the different offices and terminals of the International Airport Jose Marti. This avenue has three ascendant roads and three descendant roads. They are separated by a sidewalk with a wall, some palm trees or boxes with different ornamental plants. It also has street lamps with two light bulbs facing both sides of the road.

Orden Playa Girón

It was the first order established in Cuba after the triumph of the RevolutionIt was exactly created on July 18th, 1961 some months after the Cuban people had taken the victory in Playa Girón. It was against the mercenary invasion that landed in this south - central zone of the national territory trying to destroy the Revolution. From that moment on, up to now the Order has been given to Cuban or international citizens who have been outstanding in the fight against the imperialism, colonialism or neocolonialism or that have done heroic deeds for peace and world progress. Yuri Gagarín, the first cosmonaut of the world was also the first receiving the Order.
