Miguel Alfonso Pozo dies in Havana.

He was born in a small village called Ranchuelo, on September 29th, 1908, that was in the province Las Villas then. He was very famous in the first half of the twenty century; he was a troubadour, a poet and a singer and was artistically known as Clavelito.  He was devoted to improvisation and decima campesina (is a poetic expression of ten verses and eight syllables). He was successful in the radio program called “Pon tu sentimiento en mí” that was transmitted by Unión Radio Televisión.

Ranchuelo

It is a village that has the same name of the municipality in the current province of Las Villas. It was established on October 1st, 1734 in a place known as Bocas de Ranchuelo, that belong to the Hato Del Escambray. Originally it was called San Lorenzo del Riachuelo because it was established in the area of San Lorenzo, on the banks of the stream called Ranchuelo. This place was a small poor hamlet for more than a century; nevertheless it particularly improved around 1856. It was when Diego González Abreu y Jiménez, one of the founders of the hamlet bought a steed and sixty cords of land that he started to sell in pieces of land. The selling began after the drawing of what was supposed to be the current hamlet from the Calle Real 12, where his house was.  It was in 1879 when it became a municipality, due to its economical improvement and the increase in population, together with other villages.
