The National Association of the Blind was created in Havana, Known by its acronym ANCI was created in Havana.

Before the revolutionary triumph, the blind population was not considered for the development of society. Until then it had only been able to organize itself in small institutions that, basically in the capital, tried to nucleate small groups that with good or regular intentions tried to survive and get ahead. From its creation, ANCI's main objective was to achieve the incorporation of the blind and visually impaired to the economic and social life of the country, as well as to promote the development of cultural, sports and recreational activities.
