597 of the 6923 new positive cases of Covid 19 are from La Habana

Dr. Francisco Durán, National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, in a press conference, at the end of yesterday, July 13, stated that, 6923(501+) new positive cases were confirmed for a total of 238 491.

To date, 1537 deaths by coronavirus (47 belong to the day) have been reported, and 32 088(3883+) confirmed cases of which 31 855(99.3%) with a stable clinical evolution, 2993(belong to the day) medical or epidemiological discharges for an amount of 204 810(85.9%). There are 109 critical patients and 124 in critical status.

Of the amount of patients diagnosed, 597(11- ), belong to the capital, of them 595 native and 2 imported cases. The biggest amount of PCR tests done (22.8%) of an amount of 10 621, belong to the capital with a positivity of 5.6 %( higher than yesterday) placing it at fiftieth position of the chart.

Francisco Durán confirmed 4 deaths by coronavirus in the capital and 1163 of the pediatric cases diagnosed in the country, 127 are from the capital. In contrast with this last Friday, the incidence rate increased from 3.27% to 337.9% per million inhabitants. Therefore he warned about the strict comply of the health measures due to the still increasing and spread transmission along the municipalities. The second biggest figure of active events, 71, of the 219 reported, are from the capital.

The most affected municipalities in Habana were Marianao (84), Diez de Octubre(72), Arroyo Naranjo(64), Cerro(60),Centro Habana(55),Lisa(36),Boyeros and Habana Vieja( 32 each),Playa(31), Plaza de la Revolución(29), Habana del Este(26),Cotorro(25),Guanabacoa(24) and Regla(7).

46 648 test were studied for Covid 19, with a result of 6 923 positive samples. Accumulating 5 548 510 analyzed samples of which 238 491 (4.3%) were positive.

Of the 6 923 confirmed cases, 6772(97.8%) were contact of confirmed positive cases for a total of 228 257(97.5%). There were 41imported cases (0.6%) for a total of 9 464(4%). There were 110 cases (1.6%) with unknown infection source.

There were 6082(173+) native cases confirmed, of which, 3560(51.4%) female and 3363(48, 6%) male cases.

This Sunday the amount of asymptomatic cases decreased to 6.4 %( 614), for an amount of 94 486 which represents the 39.6% of the confirmed cases to date. In regard with this indicator, Durán stated that there is a trend to the decrease that shows the severity of the new strains clinical chart due to the symptoms appearance since the diagnose of the disease.

57 396 patients remain hospitalized for clinical epidemiological surveillance, 16 487 suspicious, 8821 under medical watch and 32 088(3883+) confirmed positive cases (active cases). 31 855 cases (99, 3%) with a clinical stable evolution. An amount of 204 810(85.6%) have been discharged from hospitals.

Of the 6923 confirmed cases, 1263 were under 20 years of age; 1994 between 20 and 39; 2436 between 40 and 59 and 1230 over 60.

The death rate for Covid -19 in Cuba, in July 13, 2021 is 0.64% which is lower than the 2.16% for the world and the 2.62 % for the Americas region.

Summarizing the behavior of the disease in the first 13 days of July, it has been identified 44 546 Covid-19 positive cases for an average of 4454 confirmed cases per day. There is an amount of 23 Covid-19 related deaths per day of the total of 235 casualties.

Durán explain, during his intervention, that the fact of people getting vaccinated with one of the Cuban vaccine candidates does not mean they are free of getting the disease. In that sense, he emphasized: “Although the subject has been vaccinated with the established three doses and even when time has pass enough for developing antibodies against the virus, there is still a chance of getting Covid-19.
