The Central Vaccination Board is created in Havana.

The scientist Tomas Romay was elected as Secretary. This Cuban man of science introduced the vaccine in our country. He is considered the precursor of the development of science in Cuba. He was also outstanding because of his contributions in the teaching of Medicine and the Anatomy studies. It was in the dead body and the ones related to the clinical medicine in the hospital wards.

 «The Central Vaccination Board» was created in Havana on July 13th, 1804. There were vaccination centers in all municipalities. He was the Optional     Secretary and main figure for 31 years until his dead. The scientist Tomas Romay introduced the vaccine against smallpox in Cuba. The Central Vaccination Board had subordinate boards in some of the main cities in the country and vaccination centers in almost every village.

He died in Havana on March 30th, 1849 at the age of 84 years old. The scientist introduced the vaccine in our country. He is considered the precursor of the development of science in Cuba.  He was born in Havana on December 21st, 1764. He got a degree in Medicine in 1792 and was considered a great humanist, wise, physician and a great hygienist. Tomas Romay read what is considered today, the first remarkable work in the Cuban medical literature. He did it at the Economical Society of Friends of the Country.  He spoke about the malignant fever called Black Vomit.
