He was born in Sagua La Grande, in the province of Las Villas at that time, on June 12th, 1926. He was a several times awarded journalist, throughout his life. One of these awards was the Merit for the Culture and Education. He was a commentator and a movie critic and the presenter of the famous television program Sunday Show .Likewise he worked in the teaching field and headed the Higher Institute of Arts.

It was a Cuban television program created in 1981. Its initial presenter the journalist and movie critic was Doctor Mario Rodríguez Alemán.

Higher Institute of Art

It was founded on September 1976 through the law number 1307 on July 29th in the same year. The Higher Institute of Art is a higher education center in Cuba and is known by its acronym, ISA. Doctor Mario Rodríguez Alemán the prestigious movie critic was its rector and an outstanding educator. The once- exclusive Country Club area was chosen for the building of this institution. Several distinctive buildings were constructed later for the different specialties. There were only three schools at the beginning: Music, Plastic Arts, and Performing Arts; nowadays the school of Audio Visual Media Arts is there as well.
