Eusebio Leal Spengler Provincial History Prize 2020 to be awarded

In a final session held on June 25, the Awarding Committee for the Eusebio Leal Spengler Provincial History Prize, whose creation and composition was announced at a press conference last June 7, made public its opinion on the matter.

The jury evaluated proposals from the base sections of the Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC), which is based at the Institute of Cuban History; the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Havana; the University of Pedagogical Sciences Enrique José Varona; the Office of the Historian of the City and the municipality of La Lisa, the base section of Sports History, as well as the one issued by the Academy of Cuban History.

The opinion recognized the nine proposals valued as highly meritorious, with enough achievement to receive the award. After having analyzed the documentation provided, and as a result of a deep and thoughtful collective reflection, the Jury decided to deliver the award to BEd. Raida Mara Suárez Portal, taking into account her extensive and fruitful career in the field of Cultural Heritage and Museology, as the architect of the System of Museums and Houses Museums of the Office of the City Historian. Her work is nationally and worldwide recognized for its high heritage and civic values, for his major contributions to the historiography on Havana and the Collection of the Museum of the City, her contribution to the creation of San Geronimo School and numerous other projects for the management and safeguarding of Havana’s historical and cultural heritage, as well as her very relevant role as the main collaborator of the Historian of the City PHd. Eusebio Leal Spengler during his lifetime.

Eusebio Leal Spengler Provincial History Prize 2020 will be awarded next June 1, Day of the Cuban Historian.
