Overcoming obstacles: that was always one of the teachings of the eternal Historian of the City of Havana, Doctor Eusebio Leal Spengler, and one of the maxims that Rutas y Andares has followed since last year. This summer project of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana (OHCH) returns in 2021 to offer its "virtual embrace" to accompany the Cuban family through the networks with multiple offers and bring them closer to the national heritage.

From July 5 to August 29, as reported at a press conference, the 21st edition of this initiative will be held, this time with the central theme "Walking Havana on Eusebio Leal’s Route", a way of paying tribute and always keeping in mind that man who discovered and taught us to love the Cuban capital and our identity.

As reported by Katia Cardenas, director of Cultural Management of the OHCH, this edition is reached with a network of 38 Facebook pages from different museums, cultural centers, research offices and many other institutions of the Office that will be showing and managing content and knowledge, always through a central theme each day.

For example, on Mondays and Fridays we will be "…On Eusebio Leal’s Route", where publications related to this great Cuban intellectual will be exhibited, under the tags #LealDiplomático, #LealArqueólogo, #LealEcologista, #LealHumanista, #LealRestaurador, #LealEducador, #LealyRoig, among others. We will know facets of this man always endless and a teacher par excellence.

For his part, the director of Cultural Heritage, Michael Gonzalez, in a meeting held at the Museum of the City, informed about the delivery, for the first time, of the Eusebio Leal Spengler award convened by the Union of Historians of Cuba that will distinguish historiographic, anthropological or patrimonial results.

On Tuesdays, several museums of the Directorate of Cultural Heritage will be connected in the "Routes through the museum collections". Thus we will enjoy the Sugar Route, the Route through the collections of tableware, the Route of Weapons, among others. In addition, included here is an initiative of the Quinta de los Molinos with its special proposal "Green Route through a Garden" to be carried out through a group on the WhatsApp platform; while the Palacio del Segundo Cabo extends the proposal #PatrimonioEuropeo / #PatrimonioCubano.

Wednesdays are designed for the Special Route "Women in thought, art and history" where the female imprint can be appreciated from different areas of knowledge and creation. Thursdays will be dedicated to "Walking Architecture", in which the company Restaura will present recently restored works and others in the pipeline, and on Saturdays several institutions have created different themes to propose "Special Routes of various themes".

Sundays will be days of exchange and promotion to publicize the results of socio-cultural research, calls for workshops, among other publications.

Precisely, for all tastes and ages, a series of virtual workshops have been designed in July and August for children, teenagers and families in general. The most varied topics can be found in these proposals that, if epidemiological conditions permit, may become face-to-face in August.

Rutas y Andares continues its joint work with social projects such as Niños Guías del Patrimonio, Somos Uno, Cultura entre las Manos, most of them with WhatsApp groups where their initiatives will be kept active.

Marks the edition a contest where they will inquire into the different modalities and details of previous appointments. The best 50 answers will receive the status of Rutas y Andares Award Winners, who will be able to opt for a specialized tour through novelties of the restoration and will receive gifts. The Facebook page of the Cultural Program (@ProgramaCulturalOficinaHistoriadorHabana) will be the moderator of this new edition, sharing contents of each institution and publishing general details of the event.

Summer is back, the Rutas y Andares are back, and with them the opportunity to delve into a world of knowledge, for which the OHCH and our unforgettable Historian, Doctor Leal, have always bet. In this edition he will not be physically with us, but his dream has been fulfilled. "There will be as many other routes - he foreshadowed - and what started with a few will become multitudes, and someday, as Eva Perón once said before the presumption of her death, I will return in millions."
