Economic plenary meeting was held in Havana

The economic plenary meeting in Havana on Friday analyzed the fulfillment of economic, financial, productive and employment indicators, as well as the efficiency of the work systems at the end of May.

The meeting promoted a broad debate on the implementation of the elements that make up the economic-social strategy to boost the city's economy and face the world crisis.

Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC), and Reinaldo García Zapata, governor of the capital city, called for comprehensive work due to the complex epidemiological and sanitary situation caused by Covid-19.

They also discussed details on the deficit of auditing teams in the province, a subject of continuous analysis due to the importance of the subject and the need for control in each municipality.

It was reported that there is still a low number of auditors in the municipal governments, especially in municipalities such as Marianao and El Cerro, reason why García Zapata asked for greater agility and a more effective work strategy to fill these positions.

Jorge Luis Villa Miranda, Coordinator of Economy Programs, highlighted that within the evaluation of the work system, a tour of 12 municipalities was carried out to evaluate their work systems.

The territories with the greatest difficulties are: Habana del Este, Plaza de la Revolución, Centro Habana, Arroyo Naranjo and El Cerro. Among the difficulties, there are problems in the functioning of the efficiency commission, poor control of construction works and delays in the fine control system.

On the other hand, the issue of the completion of the municipalities' cadres was also analyzed, according to Villa, "the backbone of the work system".

On this point, he informed that the territories with the highest incidence are: Habana del Este, Regla, Guanabacoa and La Lisa and advance respecting the previous month Marianao and Plaza.

In the evaluation of May, it was explained that, in the territorial business activity, net sales were 103.8 percent. Ten municipalities failed to comply with these sales concluded with losses, of the total number of companies in the territory, 12 are in losses.

In the meeting it is requested to ensure more efficient and productive companies, "more workers for productive jobs measured with the increase of the average wage-productivity correlation", which can be achieved with the fulfillment of the 15 measures that exist in the capital to achieve it.

Villa emphasized that an increase in productivity at current prices is observed, even when there is apparently a positive correlation with the average wage, however, when the influence of the price increase is eliminated. The result shows a constant decrease in productivity.

"Making social objects more flexible is a possibility for companies and we must work in this direction" he said.

During his speech, Torres Iríbar compared the performance of state-owned and private companies and called on the former to go on the defensive to improve their economic indicators.

"It is a tough period, but it is the time to learn. Difficult times are very creative, but you have to think, these are times to establish alliances for the common good. You have to think with an entrepreneurial mentality and you have to generate profits."

"Estremecer el sistema empresarial capitalino" was Torres Iríbar's call at the economic plenary in Havana.
