Havana reports 341 of the 1436 new COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in Cuba

Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, June 19th, 1 436 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 167 804.

To date, 1 159 deceased were reported (11 within the day), 1 203 patients were discharged (within the day), 8 101 were confirmed (222 more than Friday), of which 7 955 have a clinically stable course, and we arrive to 158 488 (94.4%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 60 patients in a critical state and 86 in a serious one.

Of those diagnosed, 341 belong to the capital, of which 338 are autochthonous and 3 are imported. The highest amount of PCR tests was done in this province 29.9% (9 308), having a positivity of 3.7%, thus moving to the 11th position in the country. In Havana, 3 people passed away and 50 (22.3%) of the total of 224 pediatric cases identified in the country.

Francisco Durán said that even when there is a tendency to the progressive decrease of cases in the capital, the transmission continues to be high and very disperse in all of its municipalities. A rate of 272% (5 816) was recorded per every 100 000 inhabitants, which represents a tendency to the decrease in cases, locating it in the second position.

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Playa (44), Diez de Octubre (36), Lisa (33), Arroyo Naranjo (28), Boyeros and Guanabacoa (27 cada uno), Cerro (24), Centro Habana and Habana del Este (23 each), Marianao (19), San Miguel del Padrón (18), Plaza de la Revolución (15), Habana Vieja, Cotorro and Regla (8 each).

Durán informed that 3 municipalities in Havana are among the 12 with the highest of the COVID-19 incidence rate in the last 15 days. These are: Regla (364.9%), Centro Habana (356%), and Habana Vieja (332.6%).

For the COVID-19, 31 158 samples were analyzed, and 1 436 were positive. The country has had a total of 4 795 796 samples analyzed, and 167 804 of these were positive (3.5%).

1 342 (93.4%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 159 029 (94.5%); 15 (1%) being infected abroad, for a total of 8 096 (4.8%); and 79 (5.5%) had an undefined source of infection.

This Saturaday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1 421, and 15 were imported. A total of 710 (49.7%), and 726 (50.6%) were male.

A total of 32 834 patients are kept under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, 6 945 are under suspicion, 17 788 are under surveillance, and 8 101 have been confirmed, of which 7 955 have a stable clinical course, and there are 158 488 (94.4%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged.

The 34.8% of the 1 436 positive cases were asymptomatic, for a total of 80 185, which represents the 47.8% of the confirmed cases to date.  

The 1 436 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 244 below the age of 20 years old; 466 between 20 and 39 years old; 487 between 40 and 59 years old, and 239 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until June 19th, is 0.69% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.16%) and the one of the American continent (2.62%).
