Federico Soto Alejo is born in the town of Güines, then province of Havana.

He was formed as a musician among the drummers and the religious festivities of his native neighborhood.  Music was in his blood, since his father and uncles made music with leather. It is said that he made his first bongos with a can of sausage and a can of milk and that one day he said: "I'm going to give prestige to the instrument! Known in the artistic world only as Tata Güines, he became a notable percussionist and director of musical groups.  He was one of the virtuosos of Cuban music qualified as the king of the tumbadora.
