María Villar Buceta dies in Havana.

She stood out as a fighter, poet, journalist and librarian. She contributed to the field of bibliography and to the development of library activity in Cuba. She was the first professor of library science in the country. Her journalistic work reached its best expression in the Adelante magazine, from which she denounced the asphyxiating environment in which writers and journalists moved, as well as the general crisis that restricted the expression of political and social thought. After the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, for which he had fought, most of the time from anonymity, he devoted himself with youthful spirit to all kinds of tasks.

ADELANTE MAGAZINE

It was a magazine founded in 1935 with a monthly edition. Adelante was the spokesman of the ideological guidelines that the Adelante Association supported, which were, in a broad and general sense, to fight against social injustice and for the complete social, economic and political equality of all people. Nicolás Guillén, José Luciano Franco, Juan Marinello, Salvador García Agüero, among others, collaborated in this publication. The last issue of the magazine found (44 and 45) corresponds to February 1939.
