The young revolutionary Andrés Torres Rodríguez is assassinated in Havana.

In his revolutionary work he joined the 26th of July Movement as part of the militia organized by Gerardo Abreu Fontán with other revolutionaries in the neighborhoods of the capital. He worked in a laboratory and studied law at the Masonic University. His death occurred when Colonel Esteban Ventura set a trap for him, thanks to the denunciation of a traitor, and he was shot in Juan Bruno Zayas Street in La Vibora neighborhood in Havana.

GERARDO ABREU FONTAN

He was a young Cuban revolutionary who during the struggle against the Batista dictatorship developed an intense clandestine work in Havana until February 1958 when he was imprisoned, tortured and vilely assassinated by the repressive forces of the regime. His corpse was found on February 7, 1958, in the grounds of the former Palace of Justice, today headquarters of the Central Committee of the Party and the Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers, in the "José Martí" Revolution Square.
