Fidel Castro speaks at the closing ceremony of the Second World Meeting on Special Education, held at the "Karl Marx" theater in Havana.

He explains how Cuba, after the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, had an extremely critical situation in terms of education. He also details the great work done over the years to guarantee and continue to develop the education of all the people, including children and young people with physical and mental disabilities. He states, "The Revolution has not only worked on the material, it has also done it in the conscience, in the soul of the people, preparing the human being, who must be the human being of tomorrow, of the future, and fighting against lies, fighting against the dirtiest and crudest propaganda, fighting against blockades, and fighting against harassment to try to weaken the Revolution, to try to weaken their morale, their conscience."

#S1Special Education

It is a modality of Basic Education that offers educational attention with equity to students with special educational needs with or without disabilities and/or outstanding aptitudes, according to their conditions, needs, interests and potentialities. Its practice is based on the approach of inclusive education, understood as a set of processes aimed at eliminating or minimizing the barriers that limit learning and participation of all students.

#S2Karl Marx Theater

It is the largest theater in Cuba. It is usually considered as the theater of the Great Events of Cuba, since the First Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba was held there in 1975 and the following year the constitutive meeting of the National Assembly of the People's Power of the Republic of Cuba took place there. It has hosted other events of national and international character, as well as festivals and other cultural and recreational activities. It was in 1975 when, after a major remodeling, the theater was identified with the name of Karl Marx. It is located on First Street on the corner of 10th Street, in the Miramar area, in the municipality of Playa, Havana. This theater was initially called Blanquita and opened its doors to the public on December 30, 1949, and in 1960 it was identified as the Charles Chaplin Theater.
