Havana presents 428 of the 1 158 new COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in Cuba

Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, June 9th, 1 158 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 153 578.

To date, 1 158 deceased were reported (12 within the day), 1 081 patients were discharged (within the day), 6 047 were confirmed, of which 5 909 (97.5%) have a clinically stable course, and we arrive to 146 418 (95.3%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 55 patients in a critical state and 83 in a serious one.

Of those diagnosed, 428 belong to the capital, of which 421 are autochthonous and 7 are imported. The province reported 5 deceased, and 68 of the 111 active events on the country. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate every 100 000 inhabitants of 317.8%, the highest in the country in the last 15 days. Also, the 42.3% (66) of the 156 pediatric cases identified yesterday were located in Havana. According to the amount of PCR tests done yesterday were 8 164, which represents the 34.6% of the total, and showed a positivity of 5.24%, which locates the province in the 4th position in the country.     

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Diez de Octubre (57), Centro Habana (47), Arroyo Naranjo (47), Boyeros (38), Playa (32), Lisa (31), San Miguel del Padrón (26), Plaza de la Revolución (25), Cerro (23), Habana Vieja and Guanabacoa (22 each), Cotorro and Marianao (19 each), Regla (15), and Habana del Este (12).

Durán informed that 7 municipalities in Havana are among the 12 with the 27.1% of the COVID-19 incidence rate in the last 15 days. These are: Regla, Marianao, Centro Habana, Habana Vieja, Lisa, Boyeros and San Miguel del Padrón.

For the COVID-19, 23 608 samples were analyzed, and 1 158 were positive. The country has had a total of 4 552 908 samples analyzed, and 153 578 of these were positive (3.37%).

1 057 (91.3%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 145 505 (47.7%); 43 (3.7%) being infected abroad, for a total of 7 681; and 58 (5.0%) had an undefined source of infection.

This Wednesday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1 115, and 43 were imported. A total of 547 (47.2%), and 611 (52.8%) were male.

A total of 26 998 patients are kept under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, 4 842 are under suspicion, 16 099 are under surveillance, and 6 047 (3.9%) have been confirmed, of which 5 909 (97.5%) have a stable clinical course.

The 43.8% (507) of the 1 158 positive cases were asymptomatic, for a total of 74 589, which represents the 48.6% of the confirmed cases to date.  

The 1 087 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 166 below the age of 20 years old; 359 between 20 and 39 years old; 410 between 40 and 59 years old, and 223 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until June 9th, is 0.69% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.16%) and the one of the American continent (2.62%).
