Mercedes Serafina Núñez de Villavicencio Ortiz dies in Havana.

She graduated as a Teacher Trainer in Havana in 1936. She started her studies on Pedagogy at the University of Havana in 1949 but did not finish them. She was a primary teacher from 1945 to 1969. Her literary career started from the hand of the Spanish poet Juan Ramón Jimenez who was her friend. She was a poet and was considered one of the most powerful female voices and representative of the lyrics of the 20th century. Nevertheless her work was not very much seen by the criticism.
