Cuban boxer Teófilo Stevenson Lawrence died in Havana.

He was born in Puerto Padre, in the then Oriente province, on March 29, 1952, to a humble family. From a very young age he was interested in boxing and his father supported him in his hobby. In his sporting career he obtained all the titles awarded by the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA). He was a three-time Olympic and world champion. He won 301 of the 321 fights he fought in his 20-year career.

Puerto Padre

Known as the Blue Village of the Mills, Puerto Padre is located in the northern part of the province of Las Tunas. It is the head town of the municipality of the same name and has an area of 1,180.23 square kilometers. It is the largest and second in population in the territory of Las Tunas.
