Havana presents 455 of the 1 129 new COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in Cuba

Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, June 3rd, 1 129 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 146 696.

To date, 992 deceased were reported (7 within the day), 1 229 patients were discharged (within the day), 5 798 were confirmed, of which 5 637 (97.2%) have a clinically stable course, and we arrive to 139 850 (95.2%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 56 patients in a critical state and 105 in a serious one.

Of those diagnosed, 455 belong to the capital. The province shows 2 deceased, and 78 of the 112 active events on the country. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate every 100 000 inhabitants of 362.7%, the highest in the country in the last 15 days. Also, with a 42.1% (78) it is ahead in the amount of pediatric cases identified yesterday (185). Respecting positivity in PCR tests, it is located in the third position with a 5.1%.     

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Lisa (58), Diez de Octubre and San Miguel del Padrón (49 each), Boyeros (47), Arroyo Naranjo (33), Centro Habana (32), Playa (31), Marianao (30), Habana del Este (26), Guanabacoa (22), Cerro and Plaza de la Revolución (20 each), Habana Vieja (18), Regla (13), and Cotorro (7).

Durán informed that 8 municipalities in Havana contain are among the 12 with the highest incidence rate in the country, containing the highest COVID-19 incidence rate in the last 15 days. These are: Regla, Marianao, Centro Habana, Lisa, San Miguel del Padrón, Boyeros, Habana Vieja, and Guanabacoa.

For the COVID-19, 24 399 samples were analyzed, and 1 129 were positive. The country has had a total of 4 417 769 samples analyzed, and 146 696 of these were positive (3.32).

1 048 (92.8%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 138 855; 42 (3.7%) being infected abroad, for a total of 7 311 (5.1%), and 71 (48.7%) had an undefined source of infection.

This Thursday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1 087, and 42 were imported. A total of 596 (52.8%) of these were female and 533 (47.2%) were male.

A total of 26 062 patients are kept under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, 4 025 are under suspicion, 16 239 are under surveillance, and 5 798 (3.9%) have been confirmed, of which 5 637 (97.2%) have a stable clinical course.

The 45.6% (515) of the 1 129 positive cases were asymptomatic, for a total of 71 533, which represents the 48.7% of the confirmed cases to date.  

The 1 129 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 201 below the age of 20 years old; 364 between 20 and 39 years old; 353 between 40 and 59 years old, and 211 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until June 2nd, is 0.68% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.08%) and the one of the American continent (2.44%).
