Havana presents 491 of the 1057 new COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in Cuba

Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, May 31st, 1 057 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 143 323.

To date, 965 deceased were reported (7 within the day), 1 123 patients were discharged (within the day), 5 963 (4.2%) were confirmed, of which 5 818 (98.6%) have a clinically stable course, and we arrive to 136 339 (95.1%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 54 patients in a critical state and 91 in a serious one.

Of those diagnosed, 491 belong to the capital. Of that amount, 490 were autochthonous and 1 were imported. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate which is 391.5% during the last 15 days. The province also has the highest amount of pediatric cases identified yesterday, with a 50.6% (81). Respecting positivity in PCR tests, it is located in the third position with a 7.34%.     

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Marianao (58), Boyeros (57), Arroyo Naranjo (51), Centro Habana and San Miguel del Padrón (41 each), Cerro (39), Diez de Octubre (33), Playa (31), Habana Vieja and La Lisa (29 each), Guanabacoa and Plaza de la Revolución (20 each), Regla (18), Habana del Este (17), and Cotorro (7).

Durán informed that 7 of the 15 municipalities in Havana contain the 32.8% of the COVID-19 incidence rate in the country, in the last 15 days. These are: Regla, Centro Habana, Marianao, San Miguel del Padrón, Guanabacoa, Habana Vieja and La Lisa.

For the COVID-19, 20 474 samples were analyzed, and 1 057 were positive. The country has had a total of 4 349 338 samples analyzed, and 140 323 of these were positive.

983 (93%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, 36 (3.4%) had their infection source abroad, for a total of 7 311 (5, 10%), and 38 (3.6%) had an undefined source of infection.

This Monday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1 021, and 36 were imported. A total of 545 (51.6%) of these were female and 512 (48.4%) were male.

A total of 26 023 patients are kept under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, 4 170 are under suspicion, 15 899 are under surveillance, and 5 963 (4.2%) have been confirmed, of which 5 818 (98.6%) have a stable clinical course.

The 41.1% (434) of the 1 057 positive cases where asymptomatic, for a total of 69 908, which represents the 52% of the confirmed cases to date.  

The 1 057 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 169 below the age of 20 years old; 341 between 20 and 39 years old; 338 between 40 and 59 years old, and 206 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until May 31st, is 0.67% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.08%) and the one of the American continent (2.44%).
