She was an admired pianist and repertoire player who dedicated a great part of her life to teaching and working with children. She began her artistic career as a pianist in the Regla cinema orchestra, she also worked as a pianist in the Tosca theater, and in 1930 she performed in the CMBN Radio Station, founded by her father. On September 20, 1936, she performed as a soloist, accompanied by the Havana Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Gonzalo Roig, in the Concerto No. 1 in G, for piano and orchestra, by the German composer Felix Mendelssohn.

GONZALO ROIG

Gonzalo Roig occupies a significant place in the history of Cuban music. He turned out to be a remarkable composer, musician and orchestra conductor. He was born in Havana on July 20, 1890. From the time he was a young man, he was initiated in Cuban music. Roig created some 300 works for the theater. His extensive catalog covers different genres of Cuban music. One of the most important moments of his life was when in 1922, together with other relevant musicians, he founded the Havana Symphony Orchestra. Another great moment in the life of maestro Gonzalo Roig was when he premiered his zarzuela Cecilia Valdés, which served for his definitive consecration as a musician, theatrical performer and orchestra conductor. From his inspiration we owe titles that enjoyed and still enjoy great popularity. Suffice it to mention, by way of example, creations such as Yo te amé, Cuando nacieron en mi pecho amores, Ojos Brujos, Dolor de Amor, No me preguntes por qué estoy triste and Quiéreme mucho. This last work was made by musicalizing the verses of Agustín Rodríguez. He initially called this bolero criolla as Serenata cubana. He died in Havana on June 13, 1970.
