COVID-19 Digital Passport is Developed
The University of Informatics Sciences (Universidad de Ciencias Informáticas - UCI) works in the creation of the Cuban COVID-19 Digital Passport, said Allan Pierra Fuentes, Director of the Technological Support Center.
He said that, in order to conceive this project, which is still in test phase, several versions of vaccination digital passports present around the world where analyzed.
The UCI’s conception of a digital passport uses QR code (a way of storing data), where every person’s encrypted data will be present, and will need of an authorized signature -acknowledged by the WHO-, that only the Ministry of Public Health (Ministerio de Salud Publica – MINSAP) will provide, and which can be read everywhere in the world because it follows international standards.
“The idea is that every Cuban can have that digital passport in printed form, in an application in their mobile phones, send an e-mail with it to the interested person, or that is can be seen as an image in their phones. For this purpose we have developed three main solutions” said Pierra Fuentes.
The first one is a website where the user introduces his or her vaccination data and it generates the digital passport; the second one is the verifier, capable of saying what information the QR code stores and if it was generated with a valid signature.
The third one –he added- is the Passport Wallet, which will allow the user to have his information and that of other members of his family with him, this information can be showed once it is requested.
