Amelia Martí dies in Havana

She was part of the duo Las Hermanas Martí together with her sister and started in the Corte Suprema del Arte . As a duo they kept themselves very much to the song “Como arrullo de palmas”( The murmur of the palm trees), written by the Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona. They toured several countries such as United States, Mexico and other Latin American countries. They also sang in the trova (type of music) festivals José Sánchez, (Pepé) of Santiago de Cuba, on the Cuban radio and television. They performed a wide variety of trovadorescos musical themes and from the Latin American anthology.   

CORTE SUPREMA DEL ARTE

It was a Cuban radio program that was broadcasted in the frequencies of the radio station CMQ. The transmission started on December 1st, 1937.It became the most famous contest of the Spanish speaking radio. It was transmitted weekly at the start and then it was put on the air from Monday to Saturday. José Antonio Alonso, who proposed the name of the program, was the master of ceremonies

 

JOSÉ SÁNCHEZ

José, Pepe, Sánchez is considered the father of the Cuban trova song and the creator of the Latin American bolero as a musical genre. He was born in Santiago de Cuba March 19, 1856. His knowledge was intuitive as he did not have musical studies but he played the guitar in an excellent way. He had a baritone voice and sang wonderfully. He was the composer of several musical works among them we can mention “Me entristeces, mujer” popularly known as “Tristeza”.  It was composed in 1883 and its formally regarded as the cradle of Latin American bolero. He died on January 3erd 1918 when he was 62 years old.
