She was born in El Cobre, near Santiago de Cuba. She started to be known in the history of our literature after being united to Ramón Zambrana, a famous lawyer from Havana. She was renowned for her poetry and collaboration with several publications. Her first printed poem “Maternal Love (“Amor Materno”) was created when she was 14years old.

EL COBRE

It is a Consejo Popular in Santiago de Cuba municipality. It is 24 kilometers from the northwest of Santiago de Cuba city and is on a100 meters high hill. Copper was found in a mountain called Del Cardenillo in the first quarter of the 16th century. As there were neither technicians nor experts in smelting andit was not possible to melt the metal, the first attempts of exploitation were unsuccessful. Later the first settlers began to make their homes in a valley close to the mines. It was a land crossed by a stream that is the place where the town is now. There is the National Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre which is the patron Saint of Cuba.
