Paulina Hernández Hernández dies in Havana

She was born in a town called Consolacion Del Sur in Pinar del Rio on January 15th, 1839. She was together with Jose Marti to encourage the feeling of patriotism of the Cubans, and called upon the emigrants to start a crusade for the Cuban independence. She was known as Marti´s black mother because he found protection, dedication and care in her humble house in Tampa, as well as in the house of other Cuban émigrés. The house of this patriot house was always a refuge in the uncertain days in which the Cuban independence war was being organized.

 CONSOLACION DEL SUR

It is the name of the main town of the municipality that takes the same name of the province, Pinar del Rio. Its name is related to the church that was built in the same place where the town is. The creation of the first cell and the farmyard   owned by Don Pedro Lopez started its development in 1569. The population of the town helped the growth of tobacco production in the place since then. The church was built in 1690 and remained there until 1750, when it was moved to a place nearby. The city council was built in 1866.
