Havana reports 630 of the 1 233 new positive COVID-19 cases confirmed in Cuba
Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, May 15th, 1 233 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 124 454.
To date, 804 deceased were reported (8 within the day), 1155 patients were discharged (within the day), 6 934 were confirmed, of which 6 814 have a clinically stable course, and we arrive to 116 660 people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 42 patients in a critical state and 78 in a serious one.
Of those diagnosed, 630 belong to the capital (143 less). Of that amount, 620 were autochthonous and 10 were imported. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate which is 446.2% during the last 15 days.
The 35.88% (8243) of the PCR tests done this Saturday took place in the capital, a territory that reported a 7.6% (630) of positive cases (The third in the country), and four of the eight deceased.
The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Diez de Octubre (89), Boyeros (79), Arroyo Naranjo (67), Cerro (62), San Miguel del Padrón (53), Lisa (48), Playa (41), Habana del Este (34), Marianao (33), Guanabacoa (28), Centro Habana (22), Habana Vieja and Cotorro (15 each), y Regla (9).
Durán informed that 11 of the 15 municipalities in Havana contain the 36.5% of the COVID-19 incidence rate in the country, in the last 15 days. These are: Cerro, Guanabacoa, Boyeros, Marianao, San Miguel del Padrón, Centro Habana, Arroyo Naranjo, Habana Vieja, Regla, Cotorro, and Diez de Octubre.
The other confirmed cases belong to other provinces like: Santiago de Cuba (81), Cienfuegos (74), Camagüey (67), Pinar del Río (63), Matanzas (52), Artemisa (51), Granma (44), Sancti Spíritus (37), Holguín (31), Las Tunas (30), Ciego de Ávila (26), Mayabeque (23), Villa Clara (18), and Guantánamo (6).
For the COVID-19, 23 021 samples were analyzed, and 1 233 were positive. The country has had a total of 3 993 104 samples analyzed, and 124 454 of these were positive.
1120 (90.8%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 117 641 since the beginning of the pandemic which represents the 94.5%; 70 (5.7%) being infected abroad, for a total of 6 573 (5.3%) being infected abroad; and 43 (3.5%) with a non-processed source of infection.
This Saturday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1 163, and 70 were imported. A total of 654 (52.6%) of these were female and 585 (47.4%) were male.
A total of 27 657 patients are kept under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, of which 4 049 are under surveillance, and 6 934 (5.6%) have been confirmed, of which 6 814 (98.3%) have a stable clinical course.
The 44.9% (554) of the 1 233 positive cases where asymptomatic, for a total of 61 273, which represents the 49.2% of the confirmed cases to date.
The 1 233 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 174 below the age of 20 years old; 412 between 20 and 39 years old; 462 between 40 and 59 years old, and 185 above 60 years old.
COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until May 15th, is 0.64% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.07%) and the one of the American continent (2.44%).
