Throughout the years this newspaper was in favor of the defense of the people´s interests. Its publication was prohibited in several occasions by the    different governments in Cuba before 1959.  When the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party was structured in 1965, some years after the triumph of the revolution, the decision of combining the newspapers Today and Revolution was taken. As a result the newspaper Granma emerged, as the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Party

#S1Popular Socialist Party

It was the continuation of the first Cuban Communist Party, which was illegal between the years 1925 and 1933. It had the features of being very close to the Cuban working class and fight for workers´ economical and social development. The party was against Batista´s dictatorship and was in favor of the revolutionary process since 1959.  It joined together the 26 of July Group and the Revolutionary Directory the moment Integrated Revolutionary Associations were created.
