In Havana, 581 COVID-19 cases have been diagnosed out of the 1 116 new positive cases confirmed in Cuba

Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, May 9th, 1 116 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 117 097.

To date, 741 deceased were reported (9 within the day), 949 patients were discharged (within the day), 5 988 (5.1%) were confirmed, of which 5 858 (97.8%) have a clinically stable course, and we arrive to 90 060 (94.1%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 49 patients in a critical state and 81 in a serious one.

Of those diagnosed, 581 belong to the capital, 620 of these were autochthonous and 6 were imported. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate which is 444.8% during the last 15 days.

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Arroyo Naranjo (70), Guanabacoa (63), Boyeros (61), Diez de Octubre (59), San Miguel del Padrón (49), Cerro (48), Habana Vieja and Cotorro (33 each), Lisa (30), Playa (28), Habana del Este and Marianao (27 each), Centro Habana (26), Plaza de la Revolución (21), and Regla (6).

Durán informed that 12 of the 15 municipalities in Havana contain the 53.6% of the COVID-19 incidence rate in the country, in the last 15 days. These are: Cerro, Habana Vieja, Centro Habana, Guanabacoa, Boyeros, Arroyo Naranjo, Marianao, Regla, San Miguel del Padrón, Cotorro, and La Lisa.

The other confirmed cases belong to other provinces like: Holguín (92), Matanzas (61), Camagüey (59), Santiago de Cuba (58), Sancti Spíritus (55), Pinar del Río (50), Artemisa (45), Mayabeque (35), Granma (21), Cienfuegos (18), Las Tunas (14), Villa Clara (11), Guantánamo (9), and Ciego de Ávila (7).

For the COVID-19, 24 111 samples were analyzed, and 1 116 were positive. The country has had a total of 3 861 456 samples analyzed, and 117 097 of these were positive.

1016 (91.4%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 110 773 since the beginning of the pandemic which represents the 94.6%; 66 (5.9%) being infected abroad, for a total of 6 060 (5.18%) being infected abroad; and 34 (3.05%) with a non-processed source of infection.

This Sunday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1 050, and 66 were imported. A total of 521 (46.7%) of these were female and 595 (53.3%) were male.

A total of 23 864 patients are kept under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, of which 5 858 (97.8%) have a clinically stable course, 3 267 are under suspicion, 14 609 are under surveillance, and 5 988 (5.1%), of which 5 858 (97.8%) have a clinically stable course.

The 63.9% (713) of the 1 116 positive cases where asymptomatic, for a total of 58 145, which represents the 49.6% of the confirmed cases to date.  

The 1116 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 174 below the age of 20 years old; 388 between 20 and 39 years old; 368 between 40 and 59 years old, and 186 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until May 9th, is 0.63% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.08%) and the one of the American continent (2.43%).
