The historian Serafín Ramírez Fernández dies in Havana.

He was the founder of the music criticism in Cuba and his house was the place for music sessions in which great masters of the epoch were known. It turned out to be the creation of the Classical Music Society. He was the head of the Artistic and Literary Institute of Havana and a piano, cello and music theory   teacher. He was part of the examining board for the music lessons of the Asturian Center, of the Association of Dependents, of the Spanish Center and the Galician Center.

It was one of the most important cultural institutions in Havana in the 19th century. The place was opened on September 15th, 1844 in a building located in Mercaderes street between the streets O’Reilly and Empedrado, in the old Havana area.
