Barbarito Diez died in Havana

He was born in Bolondrón, Matanzas province, although his childhood and youth were spent in Manatí, in eastern Cuba. There he initially began to develop his artistic activities as an amateur. Later in Havana he joined several musical groups, but he became famous as a singer in 1935 when he joined the Antonio María Romeu orchestra. He was called as the Golden Voice of the Danzón in Cuba.

Manatí

Named after a marine mammal (manatee), the Manatí municipality is located in the northwest of the eastern province of Las Tunas, with an area of 954.3 square kilometers. Only 7 of them are in the urban area, therefore it is an eminently rural municipality. Its fundamental economic activity is agriculture.

Antonio María Romeu

Antonio María Romeu was born on September 11, 1876 in Jibacoa, Santa Cruz del Norte. He excelled as a musician, composer and conductor. He was nicknamed as the keyboard magician, for the virtuosity shown when he played the piano. He lived a long and fruitful life. His died in Havana on January 18, 1955.
