General Division of the Liberting Army Emilio Núñez Rodríguez died in Havana.

Born in Sagua la Grande, in las Villas province at the time, he became a stomatologist and participated in the struggle for the Cuban independence. He also became  Brigadier General of the Cuban Liberting Army. He was also one of the officers of that military hierarchy who accompanied Major General  Máximo Gómez in his historical entrance to Havana on February 24, 1899.  He was elected for the position of  Governor of Havana until April 8, 1908.

Sagua la Grande

Located in the north plain of Villa Clara province, Sagua la Grande  municipality has 661.8 square kilometers. It is a wide strip of flat land  between la Sierra de Jumagua and the sea. The municipality has a great forest wealth, extense  sugar cane plantations, as well as a prestigious tobacco manufacture, foundries and factories of chemical products. The historical center of Sagua la Grande was declared National Monument  on December 6, 2011.
