Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, April 17th, 1037 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 93 511.

To date, 525 deceased were reported (13 the day), 4 895 (5.2%) were confirmed, of which 4 832 (98.7%) have a clinically stable course, 974 patients were discharged, and we arrive to 88 035 (94.1%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 31 patients in a critical state and 32 in a serious one.

Havana increases in 10 the amount of cases respecting the previous day, and continues to report the largest amount of confirmed cases: 584, of which 583 were autochthonous and 1 was imported. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate which is 367% during the last 15 days, being higher than the day before.

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Arroyo Naranjo (82), Diez de Octubre (61), Cerro (58), Habana Vieja (57), Habana del Este (51), Boyeros (43), San Miguel del Padrón (39), Centro Habana (38), Lisa (32), Plaza de la Revolución (30), Playa and Marianao (29 each), Guanabacoa (18), Regla (12), and Cotorro (13).

Seven of the municipalities in Havana are among the twelve where the 39.9% of the COVID-19 incidence has been located in the last 15 days. The most affected municipalities in havana are: Habana Vieja (753,3 %), Regla (729,8 %), Arroyo Naranjo (475,9%), Cerro (436,1 %), Centro Habana (433,8%), Diez de Octubre (388,9 %), and Marianao (363,1 %).

The other confirmed cases belong to other provinces like: Matanzas (115), Santiago de Cuba (88), Granma (65), Mayabeque (37), Pinar del Río (29), Sancti Spíritus (26), Artemisa (22), Cienfuegos (20), Holguín (12), Ciego de Ávila and Villa Clara (10 each), Las Tunas (9), Guantánamo (7), and Camagüey (3).

For the COVID-19, 22 088 samples were analyzed, and 1 037 were positive. The country has had a total of 3 366 901 samples analyzed, and 93 511 (2.78) of these were positive.

993 (95.8%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 88 009 since the beginning of the pandemic which represents the 94.1%; 18 (1.7%) being infected abroad; and 26 (2.5%) with undefined source of infection.

The 1037 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 159 below the age of 20 years old; 328 between 20 and 39 years old; 366 between 40 and 59 years old, and 184 above 60 years old. 

This Saturday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1 019, and 18 were imported. A total of 541 (52.2%) of these were female and 496 (47.8%) were male.

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until April 17th, is 0.56% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.14%) and the one of the American continent (2.42%).

Habana del Este: 51 (50 were contacts of confirmed cases and 1 was imported).

Habana Vieja: 57 (all contacts of confirmed cases).

La Lisa: 32 (all contacts of confirmed cases).

Marianao: 29 (all contacts of confirmed cases).

Playa: 29 (all contacts of confirmed cases).

Plaza de Revolución: 30 (all contacts of confirmed cases).

Regla: 12 (all contacts of confirmed cases).

San Miguel del Padrón: 39 (all contacts of confirmed cases).

Until April 17th, it is confirmed that 190 countries and 29 territories present COVID-19 cases. There is a total of 141 041 989 confirmed cases (+ 742 056) with 18 229 417 active cases, and 3 017 890 deceased (+ 11 436) for a fatality rate of 2.14.

In the American continent, 60 452 950 cases were reported (+ 224 492), which is a 42.86% of the total amount of cases confirmed worldwide, with 9 284 439 active and 1 461 468 deceased (+ 5 476) for a fatality rate of 2.42.
