Mario Bouza was born in Havana

He became a saxophonist, clarinetist, trumpeter, arranger and composer, director of various jazz and Afro-Cuban music orchestras. The style of the Afro-Cubans was a mixture of the Son montuno of Cuba with traits of the swing bands. Thanks to this, musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie or James Moody introduced Afro-Cuban rhythms into jazz, starting in 1947. He was a pioneer of what is now known as Afro-Cuban jazz.

Son montuno

It is a genre of Cuban music, developed by Arsenio Rodríguez. This modality is heir to the son and laid the foundations for the surge of Salsa in 1970.
