Dulce María Loynaz passed away in Havana.

Recognized as the greatest Cuban writer of the twentieth century, she was awarded the National Prize for Literature in 1987 and the Miguel de Cervantes Prize awarded by the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language in 1992. She is one the most relevant Cuban poets ever and also from Latin America. The Dulce María Loynaz Cultural Center works in the large house where she lived between 1947 and 1997, located on 19th street and E Street, in Vedado, Plaza de la Revolution municipality.

Dulce María Loynaz Cultural Center

This institution was created on February 5, 2005. It constitutes the main institutional space of Cuban Book Institute for assisting literary work and promoting authors. Among its essential objectives are to promote the strengthening of the institution-creator relationship, and in this regard, it facilitates spaces for participation to carry out cultural projects and for reflection on literary creation. The national prizes for Literature, Social Sciences, Publishing, and Book Design are customarily called Dulce María Loynaz Cultural Center, as well as the annual Literary Criticism, Scientific-Technical Criticism, Book Art, and Nuevos Pinosprizes, respectively. The property was declared a National Monument in 1997.
