As of 1931 he was part of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and in charge of its organization in the Oriente province. After the victory of the Revolution in 1959, with the humbleness and dedication that characterized him, he offered his contribution to the development and defense of the revolutionary process. Due to his great merits and his selfless work, he became a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and also served as President of the National Assembly of People's Power.

Cuban Communist Party

It is currently the organization that constitutes the superior leading force of the Society and the State in our country. In correspondence with what is detailed in the Socialist Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, approved in a popular referendum in 1976, the Martiano and Marxist-Leninist Party is the organized vanguard of the Cuban nation.
