Havana reports 484 of the 1017 new COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in Cuba
Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, April 8th, 961 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 84 532.
To date, 448 deceased were reported (5 within the day), 5 112 were confirmed, of which 5 046 (98.7%) have a clinically stable course, 963 patients were discharged, and we arrive to 78 916 (93.3%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 32 patients in a critical state and 34 in a serious one.
As it is usual, the largest amount of PCR tests were done in the capital, which was a total of 7 649 representing a 36.3 %, and resulting in 484 confirmed cases, 483 of them were autochthonous and 1 was imported. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate which is 347% during the last 15 days, being higher than the day before.
The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Centro Habana (56), Cerro (54), Boyeros (49), Marianao (32), Diez de Octubre (30), Habana Vieja and Regla (28 each), Habana del Este (27), Plaza de la Revolución (24), Guanabacoa and San Miguel del Padrón (22 each), Playa (21), and Cotorro (9).
Eleven of the municipalities in Havana are among the twelve where the 43% of the COVID-19 incidence has been located in the last 15 days. The most affected municipalities in havana are: Habana Vieja, Regla, San Miguel del Padrón, Centro Habana, Cerro, Habana del Este, Cotorro, Diez de Octubre, Arroyo Naranjo, Guanabacoa, y La Lisa.
The other confirmed cases belong to other provinces like: Matanzas (153), Granma (86), Santiago de Cuba (69), Pinar del Río (54), Sancti Spíritus (38), Mayabeque (31), Holguín (20), Artemisa and Villa Clara (19 cada una), Camagüey (15), Cienfuegos and Guantánamo (8 each), Las Tunas (7), and Ciego de Ávila (6).
For the COVID-19, 21 180 samples were analyzed, and 1 017 were positive. The country has had a total of 3 170 526 samples analyzed, and 84 532 (2.67) of these were positive.
987 (97.1%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 79 173 since the beginning of the pandemic which represents the 93.6%; 8 (0.8%) being infected abroad, for another total of 5 165 (6.11%); and 22 (2.2%) with undefined source of infection.
This Thursday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1 009, and 8 were imported. A total of 492 (48.4%) of these were female and 525 (51.6%) were male.
COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until April 8th, is 0.53% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.17%) and the one of the American continent (2.41%).

Until April 8th, it is confirmed that 190 countries and 29 territories present COVID-19 cases. There is a total of 134 225 319 confirmed cases (+ 858 874) with 23 151 345 active cases, and 2 908 064 deceased (+ 16 300) for a fatality rate of 2.17 (=).
In the American continent, 58 444 453 cases were reported (+ 294 570), which is a 43.54% of the total amount of cases confirmed worldwide, with 9 106 618 active and 1 405 885 deceased (+ 8 681) for a fatality rate of 2.41 (+0.01).
