Mario Reguera fell fighting forces of the Batista dictatorship on Infanta Street at the corner of Estrella in the current Centro Habana municipality, in the province of Havana. He was hit by a projectile and fell down dying. A lieutenant of the tyranny, who was drinking in a nearby bar, upon learning that the wounded man was a revolutionary, finished him off. Mario had frequently participated in student and revolutionary demonstrations. In the last months of his life, he was subject to continuous persecution. When he passed away, he was just 21 years old.
