Havana reports 558 of the 1 008 new COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in Cuba
Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, March 29th, 1 008 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 74 212.
To date, 421 deceased were reported (four within the day), 3 867 (5.2 %) were confirmed, of which 3 795 (98.1%) have a clinically stable course, 664 patients were discharged, and we arrive to 69 868 (94.1%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 31 patients in a critical state and 41 in a serious one.
As it is usual, the largest amount of PCR tests were done in the capital, resulting in 558 confirmed cases, of which 356 are autochthonous and 2 were imported. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate which is 314.6%.
The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Habana Vieja (66), Marianao (57), Diez de Octubre (56), Arroyo Naranjo (50), Centro Habana (49), Habana del Este (43), Playa (40), Cerro (35), Boyeros (34), San Miguel del Padrón (28), La Lisa (27), Plaza de la Revolución (26), Guanabacoa (18), Regla (14), and Cotorro (2).
The most affected municipalities in havana are: Habana Vieja, Regla, San Miguel del Padrón, Centro Habana, Cerro, Habana del Este, Cotorro, Diez de Octubre, Arroyo Naranjo, Guanabacoa, y La Lisa.
The other confirmed cases belong to other provinces like: Granma (127), Santiago de Cuba (72), Matanzas (60), Artemisa (33), Mayabeque and Camagüey (31 each), Pinar del Rio (30), Sancti Spíritus (25), Cienfuegos (18), Holguín (11), Guantánamo (10), Villa Clara (9), Ciego de Ávila (3), and Las Tunas (1).
For the COVID-19, 20 421 samples were analyzed, and 1008 were positive. The country has had a total of 963 852 samples analyzed, and 74 212 of these were positive.
961 (95.3%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 68 524 since the beginning of the pandemic which represents the 92.3%; 22 (2.2%) being infected abroad, for another total of 5055 (6.8%); and 25 (2.5%) with undefined source of infection.
This Saturday’s autochthonous cases were a total 986, and 22 were imported. A total of 508 (50.4%) of these were female and 500 (50.4%) were male.
A total of 22 792 patients are still hospitalized under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, 4 447 are suspected cases, 15 578 are under surveillance, and 3 867 (5.2%) have been confirmed, of which 3 795 (98.1%) have a stable clinical course.
The 47.2% (476) of the 1 008 positive cases were asymptomatic, for a total of 38 746, which represents the 52.2% of all the confirmed cases to date.
The 1 008 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 176 below the age of 20 years old; 310 between 20 and 39 years old; 339 between 40 and 59 years old, and 183 above 60 years old.
COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until March 28th, is 0.56% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.19%) and the one of the American continent (2.40%).
