Havana reports 378 of the 701 new COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in Cuba

Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, March 28th, 701 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 73 204.

To date, 417 deceased were reported (two within the day), 3 527 (4.8 %) were confirmed, of which 3 459 (98%) have a clinically stable course, 705 patients were discharged, and we arrive to 69 204 (94.5%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 27 patients in a critical state and 38 in a serious one.

As it is usual, the largest amount of PCR tests were done in the capital, resulting in 378 confirmed cases, of which 376 are autochthonous and 2 were imported. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate which is 306.9%.

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Arroyo Naranjo (50), San Miguel del Padrón (44), Diez de Octubre (42), Centro Habana (31), Habana Vieja (27), Marianao (25), Boyeros and Cerro (24), Plaza de la Revolución and La Lisa (22 each), Habana del Este (21), Guanabacoa (18), Regla (14), Playa (12), and Cotorro (2).

Eleven of these municipalities are among the twelve where the 49.7% of the COVID-19 incidence has been located in the last 15 days. These territories are: Habana Vieja, Regla, San Miguel del Padrón, Centro Habana, Cerro, Habana del Este, Cotorro, Diez de Octubre, Arroyo Naranjo, Guanabacoa, y La Lisa.

The other confirmed cases belong to other provinces like: Santiago de Cuba (71), Camagüey (63), Matanzas and Sancti Spíritus (28 each), Pinar del Rio (26), Artemisa (24), Cienfuegos (20), Granma (16), Mayabeque (14), Villa Clara and Guantánamo (9 each), Holguín (8), and the Isle of Youth (1).

For the COVID-19, 19 360 samples were analyzed, and 701 were positive. The country has had a total of 943 431 samples analyzed, and 73 204 of these were positive.

696 (94.3%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, 5 of them were infected abroad, and 33 had an undefined source of infection.

This Saturday’s autochthonous cases were a total 696, and 5 were imported. A total of 342 (48.8%) of these were female and 359 (51.2%) were male.

A total of 23 773 patients are still hospitalized under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, 4 004 are suspected cases, 16 242 are under surveillance, and 3 527 (4.8%) have been confirmed, of which 3 456 (98%) have a stable clinical course.

The 45.8% (321) of the 919 positive cases were asymptomatic, for a total of 38 270, which represents the 52.3% of all the confirmed cases to date.

The 701 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 112 below the age of 20 years old; 240 between 20 and 39 years old; 240 between 40 and 59 years old, and 109 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until March 27th, is 0.56% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.19%) and the one of the American continent (2.40%).

Havana: 502 cases

Diez de Octubre: 42 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Arroyo Naranjo: 50 (48 were contacts of confirmed cases and 1 was imported)

Boyeros: 24 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Centro Habana: 31 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Cerro: 24 (28 were contacts of confirmed cases and 1 was imported)

Cotorro: 2 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Guanabacoa: 18 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Habana del Este: 21 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Habana Vieja: 27 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

La Lisa: 22 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Marianao: 25 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Playa: 12 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Plaza de la Revolución: 22 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Regla: 14 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

San Miguel del Padrón: 44 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Until March 28nd, it is confirmed that 190 countries and 29 territories present COVID-19 cases. There is a total of 127 747 632 confirmed cases (+ 655 788) with 22 017 733 active cases, and 2 795 585 deceased (+ 11 551) for a fatality rate of 2.19.

In the American continent, 56 405 069 cases were reported (+ 277 847), which is a 44.15% of the total amount of cases confirmed worldwide, with 9 257 453 active and 1 355 386 deceased (+ 7 838) for a fatality rate of 2.40.
