The doctor Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, March 23nd, 736 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 68 986.

To date, 405 deceased were reported (four within the day), 3 348 (4.9 %) were confirmed, of which 3 281 (97.9%) have a clinically stable course, 745 patients were discharged, and we arrive to 65 177 (94.4%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 26 patients in a critical state and 41 in a serious one.

Of those diagnosed, 451 are residents of the capital, 449 of them are autochthonous and 2 were imported. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate which is 292.9%, being lower than the one of the day before.

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Marianao (51), Diez de Octubre and Playa (46 each), San Miguel del Padrón (44), Arrollo Naranjo (38), Boyeros (37), Centro Habana (33), Habana Vieja (30), Habana del Este and Cerro (28), La Lisa (20), Plaza de la Revolución (17), Guanabacoa (14), Regla (13), and Cotorro (6).

Eleven of these municipalities are among the twelve where the 43.4% of the COVID-19 incidence has been located in the last 15 days. These territories are: Habana Vieja, Regla, San Miguel del Padrón, Centro Habana, Cerro, Habana del Este, Cotorro, Diez de Octubre, Arroyo Naranjo, Guanabacoa, y La Lisa.

The other confirmed cases belong to other provinces like: Granma (73), Santiago de Cuba (51), Artemisa (25), Camagüey (23), Pinar del Río (21), Guantánamo and Matanzas (14 each), Mayabeque (12), Villa Clara and Las Tunas (9 each), Sancti Spíritus (8), Cienfuegos (7), Ciego de Ávila (4), and the Isle of Youth (1).

For the COVID-19, 18 177 samples were analyzed, and 736 were positive. The country has had a total of 843 469 samples analyzed, and 68 986 of these were positive (2.43%).

707 (96.1%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 63 557, which represents a 92.1%; 5 (0.7%) of these were infected abroad for another total of 4 986 (7.2%), and 24 (8.3%) were infected by an undetermined source.

This Tuesday’s autochthonous cases were a total 731, and 5 were imported. A total of 399 (54.2%) of these were female and 337 (45.8%) were male.

A total of 20 302 patients are still hospitalized under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, 3 739 are suspected cases, 13 215 are under surveillance, and 3 348 (4.9%) have been confirmed, of which 3 281 (97.9%) have a stable clinical course.

The 44.8% (330) of the 736 positive cases were asymptomatic, for a total of 36 296, which represents the 52.6% of all the confirmed cases to date.

The 736 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 103 below the age of 20 years old; 225 between 20 and 39 years old; 250 between 40 and 59 years old, and 158 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until March 23rd, is 0.58% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.20%) and the one of the American continent (2.40%).

Habana Vieja: 30 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

La Lisa: 20 (18 were contacts of confirmed cases, 1 was imported and 1 has an undefined source of infection)

Marianao: 51 (42 all contacts of confirmed cases)

Playa: 46 (42 were contacts of confirmed cases and 4 were imported)

Plaza de la Revolución: 17 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Regla: 13 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

San Miguel del Padrón: 44 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Until March 23nd, it is confirmed that 190 countries and 29 territories present COVID-19 cases. There is a total of 124 613 234 confirmed cases (+ 496 293) with 21 343 480 active cases, and 2 740 562 deceased (+ 8 920) for a fatality rate of 2.20 (=).

In the American continent, 55 255 854 cases were reported (+ 158 583), which is a 44.34% of the total amount of cases confirmed worldwide, with 9 322 266 active and 1 325 148 deceased (+ 3 244) for a fatality rate of 2.40 (+0.01).
