He remarked: “Never before humanity had such a tremendous scientific potential, such an extraordinary capacity of generating wealth and welfare and never before the world was so unequal and the inequity so deep.  The technological wonders, which have made the planet smaller, in terms of communication and distances, coexist with the enormous and each time bigger distance between wealth and poverty, between development and under development.

It was opened in 1979 to mark the celebration of the Sixth Summit Conference of the Movement of the Non-Aligned Countries in Cuba. It has a sixty thousand square meters surface and includes eleven air conditioned and modernized equipped halls. The place has been the venue for several national and international congresses and events. It also includes Palco Hotel, a four star executive hotel.
