Fernando Ortiz dies in Havana

He got a degree in law and also worked as a journalist, but he was mainly exceptional for having been a fervent studious of the historical and cultural afro-Cuban roots. His work shows his political and sociolinguistic concerns. He promoted and took part in the opening of several institutions, such as the Hispanic-Cuban for Culture, The folklore Society, The Afro-Cuban Studies Society and likewise he founded the Cuban Bimonthly Magazine and was its director until 1960.

Cuban Bimonthly Magazine

It was edited in 1831. José Antonio Saco was its first director. Its pages illustrated works of Cuban or foreign authors, including topics related to literature, history, economy, science and technology, statistics, bibliography and news linked to activities developed by the Economic Society of Friends of the Country.
