It was founded on September 1976 through the law number 1307 on July 29th in the same year. The Higher Institute of Art is a higher education center in Cuba and is known by its acronym, ISA. Doctor Mario Rodríguez Alemán the prestigious movie critic was its rector and an outstanding educator. The once- exclusive Country Club area was chosen for the building of this institution. Several distinctive buildings were constructed later for the different specialties. There were only three schools at the beginning: Music, Plastic Arts, and Performing Arts; nowadays the school of Audio Visual Media Arts is there as well.

Itinerary of the Cuban Island

It was a work created by Esteban Pichardo that was completed at the end of an expedition in the central region and in important places in the east of the island. He compiled descriptive and statistician topographic data that were improved adding Camaguey and the western region.

NATIONAL BOTANICAL GARDEN

Qualified as a true kingdom of the plant world where educational, scientific and recreational work is developed at the same time, the National Botanical Garden is located in an area on the outskirts of Havana, exactly in front of EXPO CUBA. The construction of this Garden began in 1968 and it was opened to the public on March 24, 1984, although its official inauguration did not take place until January 4, 1989. This site has about 600 hectares. Around four thousand species are cultivated, identified in more than 145 thousand planted specimens. This is one of the largest gardens in the world and occupies an important place in the list of tropical gardens.

He was born in Havana on March 22, 1877. He was a pianist, double bass player, violinist, music teacher, orchestra conductor and composer. He is catalogued as the most prolific of our composers since it is estimated that he created around four thousand works. In the famous Alhambra Theater, the main stage of his successes, he premiered ¨La isla de las cotorras¨ and other notable works. He was also the author of numerous songs and boleros and is credited with the creation of the guajira. He died in Havana on February 3, 1941.
