It is a small town, part of the municipally called Jiguani, in the current province of Granma. It is 22 kilometers to the west of the city of Jiguani, and 57 kilometers from Bayamo.

It was an emblematic internationally famous Cuban duet due to the unique way of combining their voices and playing the Son.  They came up in 1949 during a performance in which Lorenzo Hierrezuelo had to replace Maria Teresa Vera and found Francisco Repilado, whom he has worked with in the Quartet   Hatueya at the end of the thirties. The duet was originally composed by Francisco Repilado or Compay Segundo ( as he sang the deep voice of the duet) and Lorenzo Hierrezuelo or Compay Primo. In the performances they played with musicians that played the bongo, the double bass and the guiro. Los Compadres specialized in a country music repertoire, based on the traditional music of the rural areas. The duet remained until September 1st, 1955. After that, Lorenzo Hierrezuelo continued the duet with his brother Reinaldo (Rey Caney).The duet of Lorenzo and Reinaldo aimed at exploring more the son, the guaracha( traditional dance) and all the resources of Santiago de Cuba land and was more dispose for shows.They travelled around 25 countries; Rey imitated the flute and made choirs and  refrains adapted to the language of other countries.

Its practice is based on the approach of inclusive education, understood as a set of processes aimed at eliminating or minimizing the barriers that limit learning and participation of all students.

Also known as the Mambí Army, it constituted the armed revolutionary movement during the different stages of the struggle for independence against Spanish colonialism. Its initial nucleus emerged during the Ten Years' War in 1868. Years later, in 1895, when the war was resumed, Major General Máximo Gómez Báez was its General in Chief until the end of the battle.
