It is a genre of Cuban popular music. Its name is related to the sound produced by the dancers when their feet rub against the floor. It was created by Cuban orchestra conductor, violinist and composer Enrique Jorrín, who was born in the town of Candelaria in the province of Pinar del Río. The first of this new rhythm was entitled La engañadora which dates from 1948 and achieved notable success in 1953.

Ciego de Ávila ranks sixth among the fifteen provinces in Cuba, considering its surface, which amounts to more than 6,910 square kilometers, including 589.3 kms of adjacent keys. The province is located east of the central region of Cuban territory. Itis in turndividedinto 10 municipalities: Ciego de Ávila, Chambas, Florencia, Majagua, Venezuela, Baraguá, Morón, Bolivia, Primero de Enero and Ciro Redondo.

Ciénaga de Zapata is the biggest wetland in Cuba and one of the best preserved in the Caribbean area. It is in the South of the province of Matanzas, in the municipality having the same name. It is the biggest municipality among the 168 we have in Cuba and the less inhabited. Ciénaga de Zapata was declared by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and culture, UNESCO, as a Biosphere reserve in 2000, due to its riches of flora and fauna.

They are the ones to study the life and its processes. It is about a branch of the natural sciences that research on the origin, evolution and the properties of the living beings.

It is one of the picturesque Cuban cities, the only one founded by French settlers on April 22, 1819. In addition to being a National Monument, its historic urban center was declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Due to its natural beauties as well as its historical and architectural relics, Cienfuegos has been called the Pearl of the South.  It is also known as the City of the Sea, because it is located on the shore of the Jagua Bay.

 

It was founded on February 6, 1960, as an institution that emerged under the auspices of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC). Since its inception, it has worked to maintain a stable archive that cares for and disseminates the Cuban film heritage. It is one of the largest filmographic heritage in our geographic area and has maintained a close collaboration with other institutions of its kind in various parts of the world.
