It is a town that belongs to the municipality of San José de las Lajas in Mayabeque province. It was founded on March 11, 1788. It has a territorial extension of 147 square kilometers and a population of more than ten thousand inhabitants. The region is made up of 12 districts and 5 population settlements, one urban and four rural.

It is a theater expression that emerged after a long historical period that gathered all the philosophical, political and cultural elements that gave birth to the national consciousness and to a particular art form, certain rhythm cells, ways of dancing, drama genre and ways of stage performance.
Teatro Estudio is an important cultural center that in different stages has been a reflection of Cuban theatrical life and has been a factor in the development of brilliant creators and has become a great training school. It was created in 1958 by eight artists, among them the brothers Raquel and Vicente Revuelta.
It is the largest theater in Cuba. It is usually considered as the theater of the Great Events of Cuba, since the First Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba was held there in 1975 and the following year the constitutive meeting of the National Assembly of the People's Power of the Republic of Cuba took place there. It has hosted other events of national and international character, as well as festivals and other cultural and recreational activities. It was in 1975 when, after a major remodeling, the theater was identified with the name of Karl Marx. It is located on First Street on the corner of 10th Street, in the Miramar area, in the municipality of Playa, Havana. This theater was initially called Blanquita and opened its doors to the public on December 30, 1949, and in 1960 it was identified as the Charles Chaplin Theater.
The Martí Theater, formerly known as Irijoa, was inaugurated on June 8, 1884. It achieved great popular acceptance due to its programming of Cuban buffo plays and its central location in the Historic Center of the City. In 1900 it adopted its present name. The theater went through an arduous restoration process in the decade of 2010 being reopened on February 24, 2014 with a capacity of 750 people. A year later it was awarded the National Restoration Award.
It was a national art promoter institution. Bufo Theater, satire and frivolity fed its plays. It was an auditorium in 1900 when Theater Alhambra was placed there. This theater company was the leader of the longest season of the Cuban theater and lasted for 35 years. Some years after it was a movie theater called Alkázar. In 1962 it reopened with the name of Musical Theater of Havana. It was closed in the 90´s due to construction problems.
