It was founded on March 10th, 1943 by the Communist Revolutionary Union Party (Partido Unión Revolucionaria Comunista). Radio Lavin was bought with that purpose and the people supported that. Its frequency was 1010 kilocycles and that was the origin of the name of the radio station  although it was officially known as Radio Popular Onda Colectiva. Transmissions started on April 1st of the same year and had an 18 hours scheduling. It was heard inside and outside the country because it had to plants, a short wave one and a long wave one. The musical theme La Bayamesa identified the station and its slogan was “The best at the service of the best of the people”. The outstanding broadcaster Ibrahim Urbino was the leader of the station which initially  was located in Reina Street 314 in the current municipality of Centro Habana.

He was born on December 24th, 1868 and dies in New York on January 11th, 1941.He was a chess player, mathematician and philosopher, world champion in chess from 1894 to 1921.He got the title when he was 25.

He also performed in United States, Puerto Rico and México. In Mexico, he was hired to perform in a musical, together with other prestigious comedy actors like Tin Tan. He died in Havana on November 15th, 1988.

He was born on December 25th, 1926in Candelaria, a town in the province of Pinar dl Rio. He was an exceptional violinist, composer and conductor who created the musical gender Cha, Cha, Cha , inspired in the sound the feet of the dancers enjoying his danzón called “La Engañadora”. It was how this rhythm that went beyond national borders emerged and transcended as an international hit. Enrique Jorrín died on December 12th ,1987 in Havana.
