1952. Ángel Arturo Aballí Arellano dies in Havana.
He was a Doctor of Medical Sciences, considered one of the most important pediatricians in the history of Cuban medicine. His life and work was directed to the defense of the interests of the new generation, to the study of childhood and to fight to have the resources required for his care, well-being and happiness.
He attended his primary studies at the "El Siglo" school in his hometown, Matanzas, at whose Provincial Institute of Secondary Education he obtained his Bachelor's degree in 1894. He then moved to Havana where he entered the university where he graduated in 1901 the title of Doctor of Medicine. Declared an Eminent Student by the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy Faculty, he was later awarded the first biannual travel scholarship that allowed him to refine and expand his scientific knowledge at the Universities of New York, Paris and Berlin. In 1903 he returned to Havana. In 1908 he was already officially in charge of teaching pediatric pathology and clinical practice at the School of Medicine. In 1923 he was promoted to Full Professor of the Chair of Clinical and Child Pathology. For many years he devoted himself entirely to the teaching and practice of medicine in his specialty.With the collaboration of one of his best disciples, doctor and professor Félix Hurtado, he founded the Cuban Society of Pediatrics, which he presided over and created its Bulletin as an advertising organ. He also attended responsibilities within medical institutions in Cuba. He was elected, for example, Full Member of the Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural Sciences of Havana, President of the Society of Clinical Studies of Havana and later the Medical College of Havana appointed him as one of its Honorary Presidents. . In his work as a scientific writer he remarkably enriched the Cuban medical bibliography. His works were reflected in important national and foreign scientific publications. He belonged to various scientific institutions, both national and foreign, and received decorations and other recognitions for his valuable contribution to science and medicine in particular.
2012. Héctor Gregorio Rodríguez Alamaral dies in Havana.
He began as a sports commentator when he joined the group of workers at Radio Morón, where for several years he worked on sports broadcasts. He was a prominent sports journalist, narrator and announcer for Cuban radio and television. He was among the founders of the National Sports Newscast.
In his work for sports, he was known for his characteristic way of presenting himself when he pointed out: “A greeting to all of you”. In this way he encouraged the fans to enjoy the challenges in the National Baseball Series. Unforgettable in his voice was the description of Alberto Juantorena's career on July 25, 1976, when he reached the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada.
He was a Deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power in which he held the position of Vice President of the Health and Sports Commission.
