Havana ephemeris. July 19.

1975. The assembly begins at the Abel Santamaría School in Havana where a Management Committee was elected in charge of carrying out the pertinent procedures for the creation of the National Association of the Blind, ANCI. Later it was identified as the National Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired.

It is a national non-governmental institution that brings together blind and visually impaired people. It seeks and manages to achieve its fullest social inclusion, as well as to develop between citizens and the country's institutions the greatest understanding of citizens with this disability.

The National Association of the Blind was legally constituted by Resolution 67 of the Ministry of Justice on March 4, 1978, but over time the date of July 19 has been taken into account to commemorate the anniversary of that organization.

The ANCI has branches in the country's provinces and municipalities.

This organization is recognized internationally.

It is usually considered one of the most advanced organizations of people with disabilities in this regard.

She is part of the group of organizations from different countries that make up the Latin American Union of the Blind (ULAC), of which she is the founder, and is also a member of the World Blind Union (WBU).

The fundamental objective of this Cuban organization is to achieve the incorporation of the blind into social life, which is intended from the comprehensive rehabilitation of the individual. Hence, in the ANCI plans for all instances appear the incorporation to work and education, as well as the practice of various sports disciplines and access to culture and recreation.

1977. The Center for Martian Studies is created in Havana.

Its history begins when Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and Armando Hart Dávalos, then Minister of Culture, signed a decree to create the center and two months later it was inaugurated in the José Martí National Library. Since its inception, it had the purpose of sponsoring the investigation and study of the life, work and thought of José Martí, as well as collecting and preserving his manuscripts, original editions, photographs and other documents and personal objects; as well as promoting the dissemination of the work and biography of the most universal of Cubans.

On February 3, 1982, it was installed in its current headquarters located in the building where the son of José Martí lived, located on Avenida Calzada, corner of Calle 4, in Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución municipality, in Havana.

One of the fundamental tasks carried out by the Center for Marti Studies is the processing of the volumes of the Critical Edition of the Complete Works of José Martí.
